LampreySoft RAM-RAID
RAM-RAID is the coming together of two powerful technologies: RAID and RAM drives.
What RAID is:
RAID is a technology that allows several disks to operate as a single disk. In addition, depending on which RAID specification is used, RAID can survive the failure of individual disks. RAID is often used in high-capacity data storage, and in mission-critical storage capacities.
What RAM drives are:
RAM drive technology is a program that treats memory as a hard disk. In this way, data files can be stored in RAM rather on a standard storage device. RAM drives are solid-state and operate at speeds which are much faster than traditional hard drive storage which are mechanically driven.
What RAM-RAID is, and what it can do for you:
RAM-RAID is a standard RAID implementation based on RAM rather than magnetic or optical disk storage. RAM-RAID uses computers with up to the maximum system-addressable RAM.
Each RAM-RAID server can be made up of one or more computers with as little or as much memory in each computer (or node) as you care to install.
Single-node RAM-RAID uses one PC computer (node) with one or more RAM drives created from its memory. Multi-node RAM-RAID consists of several computers with one or more RAM drives each. Multi-node RAM-RAID is hot-swappable - taking a node off the RAM-RAID server is as simple as disconnecting the RAM-NET cable of the node you wish to take off the server.*
*Note: Single-node RAM-RAID is hot-swappable in theory, but the practice of adding memory into and removing memory out of a powered node is reported to be somewhat unreliable.
RAM-RAID is scalable. Start with a single-node RAM-RAID with one 32 meg RAM drive, grow to a single-node 64 meg RAM drive, a single node with two 32 meg RAM drives, or use the special RAM-NET hubs and cables to network together multiple nodes, up to a maximum of 1024 nodes with up to 8 gigabytes of memory each, or a logical maximum of 8 terabytes of solid-state storage!
*Note: Given that most PCs are limited to 384 megs of ram each, the current practical storage limit for a 1024 node RAM-RAID server is 384 gigabytes using middle-high end computers. For larger node volumes, be sure to compare the highest configurable memory for the computers you will be purchasing for your RAM-RAID nodes.
RAM-RAID supports RAID specifications 0 through 5.
RAM-RAID servers are available for the following network operating systems: Windows NT 4.0 and higher, Unix, and Novell 3.12 and higher.
Special note about RAM-NET hardware:
RAM-NET hardware is a highly proprietary and advanced networking technology that binds separate RAM-NET nodes together. The RAM-NET hardware bears a suspicious resemblence to generic re-labeled 100 Mbps network cards and hubs and standard Cat-5 cable. This is not the case. As you will note by the prices, RAM-NET hardware is very sophisticated.

Testimonials:
"I love the RAM-RAID system. I have a single node system with 256 megs of RAM. I purchased it after the RAM-RAID sales representative explained how offloading my storage onto a RAM-based RAID solution would be preferable to purchasing that inexpensive 12 gig IDE hard drive I almost bought. I'm glad I didn't make that mistake!"
- Aaron, lawyer
"We needed an additional gig of storage for our network server. We chose RAM-RAID over a MO or CD-R drive because RAM-RAID is a product we felt we could count on. We were so happy with our purchase that we took out a huge business loan just so we could afford the RAM-RAID Priority Service Plan. All we can say to the manufacturers of the various MO/CD-R drives is this: Stickers matter!"
- Henri, webmaster, beautician.net
"We decided to go with RAM-RAID because LampreySoft is a company we knew we could trust. With a solid history of reliability, decades of RAID experience, the most scrupulous employees in the business, knowledgable and professional sales staff, and copy editors who would never add glowing comments to a testimonial, we knew LampreySoft RAM-RAID was the way to go!"
- Ella, senior system administrator
"Our company high-speed, high performance storage system to keep our critical, frequently-accessed files on. Speed was of the utmost importance, and RAM drive technology beats other storage solutions on all speed benchmarks. Our fully redundant (RAID level 1) 1024 node system has 512 megs on each node for a total of 256 gigs of storage. Our total installation cost was approximately $2 million dollars, plus an exhorbitant monthly fee for the Priority Service Plan, but we're secure in the knowledge that all of our pr0n ... umm ... our mission-critical files will be available to our users at all times with the highest possible throughput."
- James Keppner, CEO and Founder, Data Archival International
"We purchased a 512 node RAM-RAID solution with a total of 64 gigs of storage. We have full redundancy, because our data is critical to us - without it, business comes to a standstill. RAM-RAID works great. One time we did have a problem with our RAM-RAID server due to a .75 second power outage which resulted in the data on the server being irrevocably lost, and it pretty much ensures our company will go bankrupt, but we talked to the Support Technician. Not having a backup plan, we never did get our data back, and all of the partners are facing audits and personal financial ruin, but thanks to the RAM-RAID Support Technician we were able to re-format the virtual RAM-RAID drive in less than 1 minute. Try formatting 64 gigs of traditional disk-based redundant storage in that amount of time! Thank you, LampreySoft!"
