LampreySoft FloppyRAID
Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks

Today, RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. It wasn’t always so. LampreySoft’s FloppyRAID products strive to embody the original concept of RAID with INEXPENSIVE floppy disks.

What RAID is:

RAID is a technology that allows several disks to operate as a single disk. In addition, depending on which RAID specification is used, RAID can survive the failure of individual disks. RAID is often used in high-capacity data storage, and in mission-critical storage capacities.

What FloppyRAID is, and what it can do for you:

FloppyRAID is a standard RAID implementation that uses floppy disks instead of the more standard hard-disk. These disks can be accessed by multiple drives, which is very similar to hard-drive RAID solutions. FloppyRAID disks can also be swapped between fewer floppy drives than disks. The extreme case of this second implementation would be to have a FloppyRAID which uses many disks, but only ONE DRIVE!

FloppyRAID is extremely flexible. A typical low-end two-disk drive FloppyRAID installation typically involves several dozen disks. FloppyRAID software prompts the user for the appropriate disks when they are needed. Even high-end 1024-disk drive FloppyTOWER installations can support more independent disks than drives. What this means for users is that their FloppyRAID solution can expand with time, and can grow as quickly as you can buy disks.

FloppyRAID is compatible with 3.5 inch, 5.25 inch, and 8 inch floppy disks, formatted to any standard capacity. FloppyRAID supports RAID specifications 0 through 5.

FloppyRAID software is available for Windows 3.1, 95, 98, Windows NT 3.51, 4.0, Unix, Novell 3.12, 4.11, MacOS 7.5.5 or higher.

FloppyRAID FloppyGUY Support

FloppyGUY Support provides the manpower for massive FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER installations. FloppyGUYS are dedicated workers highly skilled in efficient disk-handling, disk-cataloging, disk-swapping, and the pilfering of office supplies. FloppyGUY service is available in 8-hour increments - if your FloppyRAID installation is small and your business operates on an 8-hour workday, you may only need a single FloppyGUY contract. If your business has a 1024-disk FloppyTOWER installation and operates 24/7/365, you may need our FloppyGUY Premiere Service. Hourly rates are per FloppyGUY and are as little as 10% above minimum wage. E-mail for exact price quotes.

FloppyRAID FloppyDRONE Library

The FloppyDRONE Library is the hardware you need to transform your FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER into a state-of-the-art high-performance storage solution. The FloppyDRONE Library consists of two components. The Floppy Library is a modularly expandable unit which houses your FloppyRAID disks when they are not in live-use. The FloppyBOT is a laser-guided robotic "Librarian" which swaps your FloppyTOWER disks when needed, with no user-intervention. This is the ideal solution for high-volume mission-critical FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER installations with thousands of disk-volumes.   E-mail for exact price quotes.

 Testimonials:

"I use the FloppyRAID single-drive software. I purchased FloppyRAID after three hard-drives failed in four months. FloppyRAID was just the solution I was looking for. I can boot Windows 95 from my 100-volume single-disk RAID in less than thee hours!"

- Ted, personal computer enthusiast

"Our company uses the FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER 16 for our critical storage. We use a 16-disk volume, so we don’t even have to swap disks! It’s very convenient to have 23 megs of storage space you know you can count on."

- Alice, lead consultant, computer consulting firm

"I love my FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER 64! I have a 256-disk volume with RAID level 5. It’s very comforting to have the additional security of crash-survivability on my FloppyRAID volume. I use it every day, in fact, my index finger has a permanent disk-eject button indentation!"

- Harv, graphic design professional

"Our company needed a reliable two-terabyte fully redundant storage solution. FloppyRAID was the obvious choice. We have our FloppyRAID solution in a separate facility from the corporate headquarters and have iron-clad physical security. That’s how important our FloppyRAID is to us. We have 8 FloppyTOWER 1024 units, supported by 10 FloppyDRONE FloppyBOTS. Our Floppy Library is fully redundant RAID level 1. Our Floppy Library is almost 2.8 million disks, is fully enclosed in a climate-controlled certified clean room the size of a dozen city blocks. Our RAID is fully fault-tolerant, and given our clean room, we replace less than 1,000 disks per week! Our Total Cost of Ownership, including FloppyRAID products, clean room costs, original facility construction, 24-hour armed security service, electricity, manpower, and administration is under $350 million per annum! We couldn’t do business without FloppyRAID!"

- James Keppner, CEO and Founder, Data Archival International

"We used our FloppyRAID FloppyTOWER 64 so much, we had to purchase a FloppyGUY contract. Our FloppyGUY, Steve, was a great guy. We used to go out drinking every Friday. Man, Steve could drink like a fish. He knew a lot about hotwiring cars. He even showed me how to get into my locked car using only a floppy disk, a paper clip, and an 8 ounce can of Spam. Steve was, well, what can I say - he was just a great guy. He was great. It’s a shame he was found dead in the Patuxent river in his car with his foot tied to the accelerator and a bullet hole in his head."
